Noyb (none of your business) digital rights organization claims "Privacy Preserving Attribution" in Firefox (which lets websites track performance of ads without tracking users) goes against GDPR because Mozilla itself still collects sensitive data:

(They basically do the same as Google with Chrome and Apple with iOS. They don't let anyone else collect data except for them, so they get a massive advantage in the data market...)

I read some of the background and technical explainer of the #Firefox 128 #PrivacyPreservingAttribution #PPA experiment, and as a replacement for tracking done via third party cookies or similar, this is pretty good. It also seems better than Chrome's version, because it's vendor neutral and doesn't put Google in an advantageous position.

#Mozilla could have handled communicating this better, though.

#Firefox 128 is here. With it comes a new section in the privacy and security settings called "Website Advertising Preferences" containing a ticked box labeled "Allow websites to perform privacy-preserving ad measurement". The help text linked there sounds promising: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/p
