Vivaldi

We are strongly against the new ‘dangerous’ DRM / Web-Environment-Integrity. Here’s our take: 👇

With Google’s , the threat to the open web is greater as it could be used to encourage and to cooperate with Google to restrict competition in the browser and the operating system space.
This should be prevented from moving forward.

@Vivaldi using Chromium codebase, which is weaponised by Google to introduce these malicious proposals, is really not helping at all...

Switch to Gecko, or even WebKit. Please.

@unexpectedteapot @Vivaldi It's simply not worth it.

Chromium uses Blink for rendering, LayoutNG for layout and V8 for JS runtime, Firefox uses Spidermonkey for the JS engine, and Gecko for layout which is also specifically now made for Firefox only. Even if we ignore the *perf* issue, moving the codebase to Gecko is simply impossible unless they start over from scratch, and it will require more resources to utilize.

Webkit is pretty raw to use, it is just not worth to even touching it now.

@Vivaldi If Google does decide to move forward with it, where does that leave Vivaldi?

@Vivaldi Considering that Vivaldi uses the Chromium engine, will this change?

@Vivaldi I don't see how it would work. Given that their security certificate validation failed unsafe. What happens when the network connection to the 'attester' is slow or broken? They won't want long hangs trying to connect.

@Vivaldi are we going to see a Vivaldi without chromium? From what I see if seems like a good idea even if it could take time.

@Vivaldi May I ask why you put "dangerous" in quotation marks, in the heading of that post? It's kind of sending the opposite message of what you wanted to send?

@Vivaldi I like your position, but I uninstalled Vivaldi as I don't use Chromium-based browsers anymore.

@Vivaldi Maybe it's time to switch to a new environment than the web where more players can participate due to its simplicity? #postweb supertxt.net

@Vivaldi This should be outlawed in the EU. There is no way such a corporate oversight towards information access won't infringe on human rights or existing laws.

@Vivaldi As much as I dislike your browser compared to the Opera I loved, this is a good take and I support it.

@Vivaldi I hratd/read about this, in an EFF post on "X" (former Twitter). This is terrible news from Google, and needs to be stopped!
