"This year a focus will be training people with disabilities to work in the field of emergency preparedness. The recent fires in LA, where some residents with disabilities burned to death, showed the tragic consequences when people with disabilities are not fully included in disaster response planning."

CalMatters · How technology can lower barriers to employment for Californians with disabilities | OpinionCalifornians with disabilities face challenges when they enter the workforce. Businesses need planning and training for these workers.

Quite often, in the news, there’s a story about something changing in a way that “doesn’t work for disabled people”. These often have scary-sounding headlines about barriers and discrimination. But many times, the only person they’re quoting isn’t disabled. They’re a non-disabled person making an assumption, that may be incorrect, about what disabled people can’t do, in the name of allyship.
If you want to be an ally, I dont want to hear about what you think is bad for disabled people. I want you to make space for disabled people to raise these concerns for themselves.

here's a poll as research for my "isms of #nudism / #naturism" video idea that will highlight the barriers that so many face against participating in nonsexual public nudity, like #ableism #racism #transphobia #sexism anti #tattoo or #bodyModification , economic instability/being poor, and so on. Boosts appreciated!

Please only answer if you identify as a nudist, naturist, or otherwise nonsexual public nudity supporter. Feel free to reply with custom answers as well!

Are you...

Ask yourselves why words originated to describe disabled people are the words you use to describe fascists?

Fascists who make disabled people among the first they target & kill?

Seriously think about what it means that you'd rather use ableist slurs - that calling a fascist a fascist isn't insulting enough in itself? That calling them disabled is actually considered a *greater* insult than calling them a fascist?

It takes work to change, but the work starts with this Q.

The world needs more disabled journalists and writers.

We bring a unique perspective that is needed during these increasingly tumultuous times.

Heartbroken to see a disabled student lose their funding for accommodations because the school deemed them “too disabled” to have a feasible career in journalism.

This is systemic ableism. People think they can tell us what we can or can’t do.

He was described as an excellent writer, and he deserved the chance to get his degree and fulfill his dream.

It’s also a perfect example of the catch 22 many disabled people find themselves in. Often denied or judged for needing benefits and told to “get a job!”, while subsequently being told that we’re too disabled to merit giving a job.

Dickinson Press · North Dakota Supreme Court rules against DSU student's claimBy James B. Miller, Jr.

Dismantling the Department of Education is just the tip of the iceberg. Like all of Trump’s initiatives, his gutting of public education is going to be a huge give away to the ultra-rich. It aligns with a Republican voucher plan to divert $5-10 billion in public funds to private, parochial and homeschooling. It would be funded through a scam in which the ultra-wealthy could “donate” to voucher programs and then get 100% of their money back when they file their taxes—a tax break that would dwarf those given for donating to churches, hospitals, food banks and all other charities. This, in turn, would rapidly increase enrollment in unregulated, for-profit schools, that could teach MAGA-approved curriculum, like the “1776 Report,” while enforcing non-union workplaces. Furthermore, private schools can reject students based on their religion, test scores, and disability, the latter of which also aligns with Trump’s goal of gutting Title I and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

theguardian.com/us-news/2025/m The extremist Republican US House member Lauren Boebert has been accused of racism, ableism and hypocrisy in one fell swoop after criticizing a Black Democrat for “shaking his pimp cane” at Donald Trump during his recent speech to Congress.

“Al Green was given multiple opportunities to stand down, to sit down, to behave, to show decorum,” she told Real America’s Voice, a far-right outlet #GOP #Racism #Ableism The Tennessee Holler said simply: “Effortless racism.”
