Dear JetBrains Team,

I am writing to address a significant concern regarding the current restriction in your AI Assistant feature, which forces users to disable all other AI-related plugins to use JetBrains' own AI-based code completion.

While I understand that there may be technical considerations or a desire to optimize the experience when using JetBrains AI Assistant, this approach undermines user freedom and flexibility. Other AI code completion plugins can coexist without technical necessity for their forced deactivation. It should be up to the user to decide whether or not they want to run multiple plugins simultaneously, even if there’s a risk of overlapping behavior.

Forcing users to disable alternative AI plugins is not only unnecessary from a technical standpoint but also raises concerns about limiting fair competition. As the creators of the IDE, JetBrains holds a unique position of power. This mandatory exclusion of competing plugins feels less like a user-oriented decision and more like an attempt to enforce monopolization within the ecosystem.

Additionally, some developers may need functionalities from different AI plugins that complement each other, even if they occasionally conflict. The decision to manage such conflicts should remain with the user, not imposed by the IDE.

I urge you to reconsider this policy and allow concurrent use of multiple AI plugins, leaving the choice to the user. This change would demonstrate JetBrains' commitment to fostering an open and competitive ecosystem while empowering developers to shape their own working environments.

@michabbb To my knowledge, no public LLM systems have a verifiably clean training set. Most are provably violating copyright for their training data.

All of them are using absurd amounts of electricity, at a time when we need to be more power efficient to avoid crashing civilization.

All to power what is at the end of the day a vee inefficient Autocomplete.
