Jon S. von Tetzchner

Hello. This is my .

I have been working with Web technologies since 1992. I have co-founded two browser companies, Opera Software and Vivaldi Technologies. I was CEO at Opera and I am CEO at Vivaldi.

I am a strong proponent of open standards. I believe in building feature rich products that can be adapted to the needs of users without collecting information about usage. I believe no company has the right to profile their users.

Standard open minus the UI of your product. Vivaldi's corporate image defense is not convincing especially when the competition copies your features and improves them.
I invite you to really make all your software opensource, I hope that will happen someday.

@jon Edit to fix my spelling mistake on Mastodon. 😄

@jon Hi Jon, nice to meet you. I am an English-Polish translator, have been working in the field for 30 years, 2/3 of it using CAT (Computer Aided Translation) software. I respect your approach to open standards, Vivaldi has been my browser of choice for quite a long time, it quickly replaced Firefox which I long considered untouchable and indispensable. Hope you'll be able to bear the open standards flag for many years to come.
#Introduction

Hi @jon ,
I have been using for around 2 years. I love some of the amazing features like Page Tiling and Notes. I use MS Edge OLNY FOR its natural TTS.

Would you please introduce this here?

Also, please improve the Mailbox.

Cheers

@sajalghosh , thank you for your kind words. What do you mean by TTS?

@jon @sajalghosh Common usage is "Text to speech", with STT being "Speech to text" and so on.

@jon @sajalghosh Alt text is a big deal round here. It's part of the vibe.

Hi @jon

Sorry for not clarifying. I love the "Read Aloud" feature of MS Edge. The voice sounds more natural than any other free "Text to Speech" engines. I particularly love this feature because as a non-native English speaker, it helps me read faster and make me feel more comfortable. Reading newspapers, long articles / blogs is much more comfortable with this feature. In addition, combined with and ePub add on, I also read ebooks with MS Edge.

@sajalghosh , thanks for the clarification. Will have a look.

@jon wow thank you for your work and wellcome to the fediverse.

#welcome!

OMG, back in the noughties I was a paid subscriber to Opera - great browser in its day.

@jon I always thought it was pretty froody that Opera had #BeOS support back in the day; and I need to thank you for supporting that underdog of an Operating System back then.

Im a happy Vivaldi user today, on linux.

For a long while now word on the street is Opera became a kind of Chinese spyware. What is your opinion about that?
