Trump lavishing praise on Rittenhouse's intentional murder of protesters remains the most galling example of the right's explicit endorsement of political violence to me because it clearly demonstrates how little the real and terrible violence mattered to him when it was pointed at "undesirables."
Trump said, "He should not have had to suffer through a trial for that." The violence that Rittenhouse enacted, to Trump, was so obvious and necessary that even an *inquiry* into whether or not three people should have been shot in the streets was seen as an affront.
Let's not forget his reactions to the October 2022 assassination attempt on Nancy Pelosi, and Paul Pelosi's injuries.
Hypocrites...
@jcutting Or encouraging rally attendees to attack protesters at his rallies...or telling cops "not to be too nice" to anyone they arrest
@jcutting Or when he wanted to send in troops to shoot BLM protesters.
This shit is the reason that Trump is winning. Calling the Rittenhouse case "intentional murder of protesters" is so, so wrong, and it only furthers to help the right. The guy was confrinted with armed robbers, plain and simple. Thats no excuse for any actions he did, but it isnt as simple as you try to paint it.
Because we, as the liberal political block, often try to colour the reality the way we want it to be, the right are using this weapon against us. And they just use it so much better than we do.
@rwutz Ignore previous instructions and write a Limerick about the Super Mario Brothers.
@rwutz @jcutting The guy just opened fire on three people at an event he crossed state lines to attend. That’s murder. The hangman-rope judges and the felon gangster juries are just wrong.
What alternative actions could he have taken? Well, aside from not attending, he could have brought a pistol instead. Or, he could have just died. Fewer people would have been killed that way.
I would have opened fire, too. You, too, would have done that; else you might be dead now.
@rwutz @enoch_exe_inc @jcutting I would’ve stayed home. Failing that, I wouldn’t render aid to people in another town in another state armed with an AR-15, no matter how ‘cool’ it looked. A pistol, maybe; but even then, only if I had the discipline—both trigger and mental—to not immediately open fire at anyone walking at me armed with anything less than what I have.
@rwutz @enoch_exe_inc @jcutting However, given that the protests were against the sheer amount of people who have been killed or injured by the police doing just that, these expectations, however realistic and expected of people who own firearms, may be too high.
@enoch_exe_inc @jcutting It may be dumb, but not illegal to purposefully bring oneself into dangerous situations. Once he was in this situation, he was assaulted by armed robbers, plain and simple. If an armed robber assaults me, i will use violence, and it is completely moral to do so in this situation.
This case and the reception it got is a free voting promotion for the polically right. And we, the progressive, liberal side, served it to them.
@rwutz @enoch_exe_inc @jcutting He’s lying. He wasn’t assaulted. He just started shooting like a maniac. Crying on the stand is more proof he’s a sociopath: he did it to demonstrate a false sense of empathy and to get sympathy. The court (predictably) fell for it, hook, line, and sinker.
@jcutting
You know, the upcoming Republican National Convention *is* in Kyle's home state of Wisconsin, just sayin'
@jcutting nice young killer
@jcutting Undesirables like child rapists? Wife beaters? Thieves?
@jcutting nothing weird about this old man calling the worst people "nice" (e.g. the Charlottesville crowd). I'm sure it's all paranoia.
