Now, because of Google's no-opt-out policy on AI searches, every search uses ten times more power than they used to. Want to find out what movie Danny DeVito did with Arnold Schwarzenegger? Now, you have to weigh your curiosity against the health of the planet.
Don't Google that! It was Twins! Jeez, didn't you read the start of this post?
@Klaxun i about to Google alternatives to Google, now I'm stuck!
@faab64 @tobyleaf @Klaxun https://search.marginalia.nu/ Marginalia is really handy if your looking for older stuff and it does proper web1 style boolean searches too.
I think AltaVista was the last mainsteam search engine that actually returned what you asked for.
@ShadowInTheVoid @faab64 @tobyleaf @Klaxun We've been using kagi at work (which is paid for) and it's been pretty great. It has AI fluff but it's optional and you have to opt in during your query.
@faab64 @tobyleaf @Klaxun Not to burst your bubble but are you aware about a Bing API outtage that happened awhile back? DuckDuckGo and Qwant were both affected. Both source (imo heavily) from the Bing search results.
I use Mojeek or DDG if the results of the former are lacking.

Not being an "actually" dick; didnt Qwant go AI?
>Qwant is evolving to bring you many new features directly available in the search engine. By creating a Qwant account and logging in, you can take full advantage of Qwant , thanks to our artificial intelligence and our new “Summary” feature, for a smoother, more enjoyable search experience.
