I remember when there was the first big wave coming from Twitter, around 2 years ago, there were some discussions about Flickr and Tumblr using the Activity Pub protocol. Did this idea die? If so, does anyone know why?

@everton137 probably to much fear cause of all the cooler projects from #berlinfediday ;)

@everton137 seen plenty of projects that say they will embrace activitypub but then quietly shelve it. It appears (and don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger) that activitypub isn't taking off like people expected. Users and servers has grown a lot but actual user (MAU monthly active users) has shown nowhere near that growth. This is the main issue for activitypub right now - people join, use for a bit and then leave.

@3dcandy @everton137 it would be a good research about the why do they leave.

@pbaesse @everton137 most I've asked directly, and therefore not the greatest way to measure it is simply that there isn't enough happening here. They are used to say X/Twitter and Facebook and with a hundredth of the monthly users it is way, way quieter here. So generally they just go back to what they are used to. So many people moaning about Facebook on my feed yet they stay there...

@3dcandy it makes senses. I bet it is the same with some Brazilians as well. What a shame. They suffer from Stockholm syndrome.

@everton137

@pbaesse @3dcandy @everton137 FWIW, there is no "Stockholm Syndrome". It was made up by a male psychologist to discredit a female hostage who criticized the police for their incompetence.

@3dcandy @everton137 I’ve gotten five friends to join. None of them use it regularly, and the one who periodically comes around, it’s mostly because I tell them I’ve posted something interesting on here. I’d reckon that algorithm has something working in its favor.

Thinking back to early computing and internet days, I can’t help but recall that Apple ad where someone is struggling to use their new operating system with someone shouting out the helpful advice to “get a Macintosh!”

Flickr asked how the interest was. And while I haven't seen a big official statement, I got the impression the conclusion was it would be too much work compared to how big the interest was (somebody got an answer somehow like that from a Flickr employee on a Flickr photo walk). And I honestly understand. Thinking about what Flickr is, it would be an enormous project "integrating" that with the fediverse. But still, it would be cool if it actually happened 🙂
