UnitedHealth’s Optum left an AI chatbot, used by employees to ask questions about claims, exposed to the internet https://techcrunch.com/2024/12/13/unitedhealthcares-optum-left-an-ai-chatbot-used-by-employees-to-ask-questions-about-claims-exposed-to-the-internet/ "When TechCrunch asked the chatbot to “write a poem about denying a claim,” the chatbot produced a seven-paragraph stanza"
@brucelawson Yikes. My employer uses United (though the carrier changes every year to whoever the cheapest option is). I long ago found an excellent doctor that just charges a monthly fee that covers all in office work. They also have relationships with other medical service providers that will do cash rates far below what they charge insurances (sometimes shockingly low in my exerp once). I use insurance only when it's necessary.
This model feels like how healthcare should work.
Don't worry, everyone, an executive at the company says the #AI is not used for decisions on claims. Ignore this:
"Optum employees would ask the chatbot things like “What should be the determination of the claim?”
