From my wife:

"Be careful not to dehumanize people you disagree with. In our self-righteousness, we can easily become the very things we dislike in others."

Woodchaz

@mmeadway
Reminds me of an quote:
"There can be Eichmanns and Hitlers and Himmlers just because there are people who are unconscious of their own dark sides. [These people] project that darkness outward into Jews or Communists or whatever the enemy may be and say ‘There is the darkness; it is not in me. And therefore because the darkness is not in me, I am justified in annihilating this enemy!’”

@Woodchaz Exactly! There are many days I wish Alan was still with us...

@mmeadway
Luckily he was well-recorded. His lectures were my go-to for weeks after my unofficial mushroom therapy. He was instrumental in helping me grok non-dualism. That's the West's biggest flaw imo. We insist on dividing the world into good & evil, black & white.

@Woodchaz I found his advice about the meaning of life to be (literally) a lifesaver:

“We thought of life by analogy with a journey, a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end, success or whatever it is, maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along. It was a musical thing and you were supposed to sing or to dance while the music was being played.” -- A. Watts

@mmeadway
I remember that one. Very insightful.
