In an attempt to learn the basics of playing a keyboard instrument I have spent the princely sum of £14 on a plastic melodica. As you might expect, most of the options at this end of the scale are in garishly bright colours to appeal to children. Luckily, I was able to find this one which is made from a recycled 1970s bathroom suite.
@BigJackBrass that feels like really expensive music.
@commonst And potentially lethal.
@BigJackBrass well, yes. That is also a good point.

Hey I was listening to Brazilian music the other day and came across the cavaquinho, a sort of Brazilian ukulele, but not quite, and tuned differently. Thought you might be interested.

Went looking for the link and not surprisingly I was already chatting with you at the time:

I was more fascinated by the guy playing the Tamborim

@DenOfEarth Looks like he has a more ordinary drumstick than the beater shown on Wikipedia. Bit hard to see.
@BigJackBrass
Agreed, looks like a normal drumstick.
Related, I've never gotten over this performance of Fever with Peggy Lee where her drummer, Jack Sperling, puts away his drumsticks early on and plays the whole piece with his hands.

@DenOfEarth Thank you. It's an interesting instrument, but like the rajão and the machete—two other influences on the ukulele—I've never played one. They're all still popular in Portugal I'm told; understandably, clearly popular in Brazil too.
@ridetheory Reminds me of the old Bob Monkhouse gag: People used to laugh at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well they're not laughing now.
