Another day, another late short-formed train to ...

That Northern rail staff are really earning every penny this morning, by guarding the doors, and bellowing at passengers like coked-up nightclub bouncers, looking for a fight.

No, I don't have any solidarity with the RMT or Aslef unions. Their staff are overpaid morons, and I don't support pro-Brexit organisations of any type.

Replace the whole lot of them with robots. Sack the lot of them.

@justinionn

Just came across this post whilst browsing #ASLEF.

Perplexed that you think ASLEF and RMT 'staff' are morons. Are you meaning staff employed by those unions, or members of those unions? (I am one of the latter).

Happy to engage with you on this matter (if you want), as I am in broad agreement with other views you share on your timeline.

I'm reaching out purely in the spirit of a good-natured discussion (albeit one where the starting point is you possibly thinking me a 'moron'). I'm hopeful we do this in the opposite way things are often conducted on the bird site.

@AmateurRambler There is no discussion to be had. I have neither the time nor energy to engage with you further than this brief response.

And as an aside, I'm not anti-union. I broadly support the recent nurses strikes, and wholly support the strikes by teaching staff and postal workers.

I do not support pro-Brexit organisations, regardless. Other unions are available for rail staff to join.

LabourListTSSA conference votes against Brexit, for public vote on any deal – LabourListDelegates at the annual conference of transport union TSSA yesterday overwhelmingly voted against Brexit, describing the project as a "victory for the xenophobic and nationalist…

@justinionn

Thanks for replying; you have no obligation to engage, so fair enough.

I'm glad you are broadly supportive of unions (I assumed that from your timeline). The pro-brexit stance that was taken by ASLEF and RMT is not one I agree with; certainly ASLEF had a specific reason for their position (see: the 4th railway package) but overall I thought it to be wrong-headed. Another thing we have in common!

If this is the reason you are anti ASLEF and RMT, I'd urge you to seperate their views on brexit from their current industrial action, which is no different to the other unions you do support. Also, don't forget that the membership don't always blindly agree with the leadership. Hopefully you don't really think us all morons (you don't seem to be the sort to make sweeping generalisations).

As a train driver, ASLEF or RMT are the only recognised unions in my workplace. TSSA tend to represent the management grade.

Anyway, solidarity to you in the many causes we share ✊
