There are a lot of resources on the topic at the [EEOC website](https://www.eeoc.gov/sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity-sogi-discrimination), but I'm pretty sure I did see a paragraph where a respondent mentioned [paraphrasing] "it's not illegal to ask about [sexual orientation] in an interview". I came across an old document feat advisory about potentially illegal interview questions, which thus inspired my awareness. Also, job searching. That question wasn't on applications last year.
