Big Tech is using the nationalism card. When the EU wants to regulate American companies and fines them when they break the rules, then they want to see that as attacking American companies.

What does it then mean when the DOJ in the US wants to regulate Big Tech and fines them for breaking the rules?

The reality is that we need regulation. Big Tech has gotten away with too much. They have grown too powerful. They are doing too much damage.

Choose smaller companies, when you can. Take a stand.

@jon More and more I'm realizing that the majority of tech products & services I enjoy using originate in the EU. Huh, I wonder why that is… 🤔

@jon choosing smaller companies is not an option when there is no true alternative or the products are worse. Voting with your wallet at this scale is a silly notion. The only true long-term solution is more regulation and heavier fines.

@ppn I think getting more regulation and heavier fines is just as unlikely to happen as voting with our wallet is unlikely to change things. Sadly.

I think the point is that if smaller companies aren't supported *when we can* then we lose *all* alternatives.

@rspfau indeed. I just stated what I think would be the most effective way, not what I think is likely to happen. The EU is especially talented at barking and not following through with any meaningful action.

@jon please consider to stop calling USA "America"/"American". America is more than USA.

@xliiv , point taken. Just the words they used, so I used their words.
